In response to the rising cases of gender-based violence (GBV), the leadership of Wakiso District, together with other stakeholders, is advocating for the strengthening of community justice systems to handle mediation cases at the village level.
They emphasize that many GBV cases go unreported due to victims’ fear of retaliation, while those that are reported often come after victims have already been threatened. In addition, the leaders are urging the government to establish community emergency shelters to provide temporary housing and protection for victims of violence.
