BANK CAPITALIZATION: 10 banks under capitalized
As the central bank considers proposals to increase the minimum required capitalisation for commercial Banks from 25bn to 150bn, 25 for credit institutions and 10bn from 1bn shillings for Micro deposit taking institutions, amidst economic hardships caused by the C19 shocks on the industry, ten banks may be under capitalised. We spoke to analysts on what this means going forward. A statement from the central bank indicates that the increase in paid up capital is long over due among others.
