Uganda aims to boost wealth through Pharma Innovation
As National Science Week unfolds in Kampala, focus is shifting to how Uganda can harness innovation to create wealth, especially through pharmaceutical manufacturing and medical technologies. Treatments for chronic illnesses like cancer and kidney failure generate between USD 40 billion and USD 100 billion globally each year. Dr. Mathias Magoola, Founder and Managing Director of Dei BioPharma Ltd, believes Uganda can claim a share of that market through locally patented innovations. To date, the government has injected UGX 723.4 billion into Dei BioPharma, with the goal of turning it into a self-sustaining pharmaceutical giant. Ronah Nahabwe reports.
