Otafiire blasts NRM over interference, electoral violence
The Minister of Internal Affairs, General Kahinda Otafiire, has openly criticised his own party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM), for repeatedly interfering in the political affairs of other parties — a practice he says has contributed to incidents of electoral violence. Speaking during a dialogue with Civil Society Organisations and the Electoral Commission ahead of the 2026 general elections, Otafiire also condemned certain activists for overstepping their mandate. He urged all stakeholders to operate strictly within their legal roles, emphasising that this is essential for ensuring a smooth and credible electoral process.
