EAC members states asked to embrace peaceful approaches to border security
In a bid to restore peace at the borders of the East African Community Member states of Kenya, Uganda and Southern Sudan, especially in the Atekere community, member states have been encouraged to use local methods of restoring peace in the area. Rebecca Kadaga, Uganda's 1st Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda who doubles as the Minister for East African affairs says Uganda is committed to implement the resolutions from the East African Community's first peace caravan.
Kadaga also highlighted how the Government through the UPDF has registered success in the disarmament exercise unlike other member states where warrior communities still have access to guns. She now appeals to the heads of state to re-enforce disarmament operations especially in the Atekere communities.
