Enumeration of vendors starts in Katabi market
The Kampala Metropolitan Ministry has started enumerating vendors in various markets in preparation for new infrastructure development under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Urban Development Programme. According to the state minister for Kampala Kabuye Kyofatogabye, whenever markets are modernized, many vendors are made to sub-rent stalls at inflated prices by higher-ranking government officials and politicians who illegally take control of stalls. He says that under the new system, priority will go to sitting vendors.
