Insurer ties propel growth in micro insurance
Uganda’s micro-insurance premiums have more than doubled, rising from 700 million shillings in 2023 to nearly 1.7 billion shillings in 2024, fuelled by a wave of strategic collaborations between insurers and mass-market platforms like banks and telecommunication companies. One such partnership is the new offering between Opportunity Bank and micro insurer Turaco, which bundles affordable hospital cash and funeral cover benefits for underserved communities, with an ambitious goal of reaching millions of customers annually as Ronah Nahabwe reports.
