MPs demand utilisation of nearby Karuma power station bridge
A section of Members of Parliament representing fishing communities is urging the State Minister of Fisheries to present regulations to Parliament that will enable the implementation of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Act, which is currently inactive. They argue that once these regulations are in place, they will provide clear guidelines on how lake activities can be managed without harming livelihoods or infringing on the rights of local people. The MPs also expressed concerns over the lack of harmonized directives issued by both Minister Hellen Adoa and the Commander of the Fisheries Protection Unit, Lt. Col. Mercy Tuhakirwa, calling these conflicting directives illegal.
