Health Ministry to build TB isolation ward at Iganga hospital
The Ministry of Health is ramping up efforts to combat tuberculosis, announcing plans to construct a dedicated isolation ward at Iganga Hospital. During a press conference today, Director General for Health Services Dr. Henry Mwebesa revealed that tuberculosis remains a significant public health threat, claiming the lives of at least 30 Ugandans every day, with nearly 96,000 new cases reported in 2023. The Health Ministry aims to intensify screening and treatment, including a new initiative to screen young children for tuberculosis using stool samples, to curb the spread of the disease, as Walter Mwesigye reports.
