Igara MP switches to Mbarara mayoral seat
Igara West MP Louis Mbwatekamwa Gaffa has announced a bold shift in his political journey, declaring his bid for the Mbarara City mayoral seat as an independent candidate. This move comes after he was denied the opportunity to contest in the recently concluded NRM party primaries. Despite the setback, Mbwatekamwa says he is ready to serve and lead the city, driven by strong support from his constituents. Mbwatekamwa emphasized that his decision to leave Parliament for the mayoral race is not a step down but a commitment to serve the people of Mbarara City more directly. He pledged to prioritize sanitation, healthcare, education, and sports development if elected. He also addressed criticism over his frequent changes in constituencies, asserting his right as a Ugandan and registered voter to contest anywhere in the country. Additionally, he called out internal flaws within the NRM, blaming certain party members for tarnishing its image and undermining fair democratic processes.
