Muslim host's act of kindness in 1879 helped shape Uganda’s religious history
In Kitebi, just outside Kampala, a Muslim man named Amir Ssekikubo welcomed Catholic missionaries Fr. Simeon Lourdel, also known as Mapeera, and Brother Amans Delmas into his home in 1879. This act would go on to help shape the country’s religious history. On the very land where the missionaries first stayed, a church and a mosque now stand side by side, their shared history dating back to the 1870s.
