Over 1,400 delegates gather in Mbarara as DP leadership race heats up
Over 1,400 delegates have arrived for the Democratic Party Delegates' Conference in Mbarara, which is intended to renew the party's leadership, with several positions at stake. On Saturday, some delegates spent most of the day campaigning for new positions. Chief among them was Bukoto Central MP Richard Sebamala, who is seeking to become president general of the party. He is contesting against incumbent Norbert Mao, who is calling for calm and assurance of victory, and Buikwe South MP Michael Lulume Bayiga. The delegates, drawn from across the country, have gathered at the Asamar Hotel in Ruti, Mbarara City, for a four-day conference that will help chart the party's way forward ahead of the 2026 general elections.
