UNHCR warns of consequences as refugee funding crisis deepens
Mathew Crentsil, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Uganda, has warned that further dwindling of donations could have dire implications for providing crucial basic needs to refugees in the country. There are nearly 1.7 million refugees in Uganda, and their numbers continue to grow every day. Daniel Kibet reports that UNHCR Uganda is facing a funding crisis, having received only 20 percent of the total budget the agency requires this year. This figure is as of April 2024.
