Urgent need to promote Uganda sign language in Education
Government has been urged to popularize the Uganda Sign language as part of efforts to improve on the academic performance learners with a hearing disability.
Advocates for people living with the hearing impairment point out that many learners, especially those born to parents without this disability, only encounter the official sign language in school. This they say, makes it hard for them to comprehend learning material.
Alongside popularizing the Uganda Sign language, advocates are also want the study of English language to be emphasized for both deaf learners and teachers as a language of instruction.
