Following a heavy downpour in Kampala yesterday, which triggered severe flooding along the Nakivubo Channel, several businesses in Kampala’s arcades were left devastated. The flooding has reignited tensions between Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, city businessman Hamis Kiggundu, popularly known as Ham, and state and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) officials. Mayor Lukwago has blamed Ham for “sheer recklessness” and is demanding compensation for affected traders, while KCCA states that its engineers will investigate the root cause of the flooding. Beata Muwema reports.
