Kangave Ignatius Musaazi: Uganda’s freedom pioneer

In the oppressive evenings of 1940s Kampala, under the shade of a tree once known as the “Tree of Liberty,” a young Ugandan named Ignatius Kangave Musaazi began rallying a restless population against the tightening grip of British colonial rule. Denied a place in the church he trained to serve, simply because he was black, Musaazi channeled his rejection into revolution, planting the seeds of Uganda’s independence struggle. From humble gatherings to forming the country’s first political party, Musaazi’s defiance would ignite a movement that no law, bullet, or prison cell could silence.
