63 years since Uganda’s Independence

63 years ago, Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen of England, handed over the Instruments of Power to Dr. Apollo Milton Obote. That day, Uganda became the 33rd African country to gain independence. Unlike other African states, Uganda’s independence was the result of negotiations rather than an armed struggle. In this report, Gillian Nantume brings some of the events that defined our country before and after independence.
