Mercy Alupo, who is seeking to contest the Bukedea parliamentary seat on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, says she will not withdraw from the race despite threats, including a pending court case. The constituency is currently represented in Parliament by Speaker Anita Among.
This morning, Alupo and two other aspirants, Hellen Odeke and Susan Norma Otai, had planned a press briefing at Centenary Park in Kampala. However, Odeke and Otai fled the venue after spotting police patrol vehicles.
The trio, along with the Electoral Commission, was sued by Zipporah Akol, who claims they are not original residents of the constituency and have since been removed from the voter register.
Alupo says she is prepared for the court hearing on Monday to defend her candidacy.
