A selected group of parliamentary aspirants under the National Unity Platform banner is scheduled to receive funding from the party to cover their nomination fees with the Electoral Commission. However, some of the party’s aspirants may be at risk of dropping out of the race due to their inability to raise the 3 million shillings required for nomination. The NUP National Treasurer, Benjamin Katana, attributes the party’s financial struggles to the sudden halt in government funding, a result of an amendment to the Political Parties and Organisations Act. In an interview with Jackson Onyango, Katana discussed the party’s preparedness for the upcoming parliamentary nominations, starting on Wednesday, as well as the challenges they are facing in running the presidential campaign amid financial constraints.
