A UNICEF report states that nearly 60% of Ugandan girls miss an average of 3 to 5 days of school per month due to menstruation, with many eventually falling behind or dropping out altogether. In response to this challenge, the Uganda Red Cross Society launched the Keep a Girl in School initiative—a comprehensive program aimed at tackling period poverty by manufacturing and distributing reusable sanitary pads.
