UCC maintains Pearl FM suspension despite an appeal
On the eve of the Kawempe North by-election, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) indefinitely suspended Pearl FM, a Kampala radio station for allegedly violating broadcasting standards. This followed the airing of a controversial programme titled "Mpulidde Kamenya."
The UCC has maintained the suspension despite an appeal by the radio station leadership.
For their part, Pearl FM's administration has expressed concerns at the impact on their audience, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, where they play a vital role in serving the Muslim community.
