Acholi leaders demand accountability from gov’t for over 20,000 missing people
Opposition MPs from the Acholi sub-region are demanding accountability for more than 20,000 people said to be missing following armed insurgencies in northern Uganda. The legislators say a document detailing the plight of the Acholi people due to insurgencies experienced between 1986 and 2006 was presented to the government this week through State Minister for Internal Affairs, General David Muhoozi, in Gulu City. PP Okin Ojara, the Chua West Member of Parliament in Kitgum Municipality, is heading a committee that was formed following a meeting with government delegates. The members include all opposition MPs from Acholi. Okin says they are tasking the government with identifying, understanding the causes, and assessing the impact of armed insurgencies in the northern region.
