Charcoal ban leaves Adjumani district in crisis
On November 4, 2021, the government announced that it had suspended commercial charcoal production and canceled licenses for forest product harvesting in a bid to reduce the rampant tree cutting that is depleting the country’s forest cover and worsening climate change impacts. However, some districts like Adjumani, which were earning revenue from charcoal production, are now in dire straits.
