Gulu leaders appeal to President Museveni over impending Balaalo eviction
A section of residents and local leaders from Gulu District are appealing to President Museveni to reconsider his decision to evict migrant cattle keepers, commonly known as balaalo, from northern Uganda, with just one week remaining before the deadline. The President, through the Minister for Northern Uganda, Kenneth Omona, and security officials, ordered all migrant herdsmen to voluntarily vacate northern Uganda with their cattle within 14 days, effective immediately, or risk forceful eviction. The directive follows a presidential executive order issued in response to multiple reports of misconduct by the herdsmen.
