Kakira Sugar Limited disowns viral video alleging impropriety
The General Manager of Kakira Sugar Limited, Peter Van has dismissed as false a viral video showing several sacks of underweight sugar, purported from his company. In the video, it was claimed that the video was tampered with by distributors and dealers, to indicate that weights had been reduced before being filmed and weighed on a scale at a supermarket in an unknown location. He adds, that while the bags and seal are for Kakira, upon investigations, the bags were found to have holes, indicating that they were tempered with. However, Jim Kabeho, the executive director of the Madhvani group, admitted that while many sugar factories are being licensed across the country, there are insufficient laws regulating the industry, leading to rampant anti-industry behavior, affecting established out-growers.
