Kampala faces garbage crisis as alternative sites are rejected
Following the suspension of garbage dumping at Kiteezi Landfill, the Lord Mayor for Kampala, Erias Lukwago, has declared a garbage disposal crisis in the Central Business District. According to Lukwago, plans to dump garbage in Dundu - Mukono District and Menvu in Wakiso District - were halted after residents rejected these proposals. To that effect, the Kampala Lord Mayor says the Kampala Capital City Authority is urgently seeking an alternative site, which must be identified within two days as an emergency measure to address the current garbage management crisis. The revelation by the Lord Mayor comes as heaps of uncollected garbage continue to accumulate in various markets and residential areas across Kampala.
