Lawyers meet in Kampala after Supreme Court ruling on Besigye, Lutale
Lawyers representing political activists, including Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye, Obeid Lutale, and Eron Kiiza are currently in a meeting in Kampala to determine the next steps following last week’s Supreme Court ruling. The court decision called for the immediate suspension of all civilian trials before the General Court Martial and other military courts, with cases to be transferred to civilian courts for further proceedings. The lawyers, along with political allies and some Members of Parliament from the People’s Front for Freedom, are convening at the PFF offices in Nakasero, Kampala, to strategize the next steps in defending their clients and ensuring their rights are upheld. Dr. Besigye and Lutale were scheduled to reappear before the military court today but in vain.
