Manafwa looks to protecting and restoring its ecosystem
Today, Uganda joins the rest of the world in commemorating Wetlands Day, under the theme, “Protecting wetlands for our common future.” Wetlands provide us with clean water, biodiversity, and climate resilience. Unfortunately, the country is losing its wetlands at an alarming rate. However, the Ministry of Water and Environment, through partners, is stepping up efforts to restore the Kamurojo wetland system in Serere district and the Lwakhakha catchment in Manafwa district, both in Eastern Uganda. We look at how protecting and restoring the management of these ecosystems is critical in providing alternative livelihoods for the affected communities.
