Over 50 protestors charged with being a common nuisance
More than 50 people have been remanded to Luzira Prison on charges related to participating in today’s anti-corruption protests in Kampala City. The group appeared before the Nakawa and Buganda Road Chief Magistrates’ Courts amidst tight security. They face two counts of common nuisance and being idle and disorderly. The suspects appeared before different magistrates at Buganda Road and Chief Magistrate Ritah Kidasa Neumbe at Nakawa Court. They have been remanded to prison and will return to court on different dates. Prosecution states that the suspects, at Parliamentary Avenue and Oasis Mall Nakumat, made a procession in the middle of the road while carrying placards demanding the resignation of Speaker Anit Annet Among; an act not authorized by law, thereby causing annoyance to the public. It is further said that the suspects publicly conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace. They are represented by several lawyers led by ULS President Bernard Oundo.
