Parliament demands explanation over unauthorized hiring and payroll issues
The Parliament's Accountability Committee has demanded that the Public Service Ministry explain how 7,341 employees were hired across various government departments without the committee's consent, leading to unauthorized expenditure of 15 billion shillings in salaries. On the other hand, the ministry has also requested police investigations into how 1,166 individuals remained on the government payroll, despite some being deceased or having abandoned their positions. MPs expressed concern that this level of negligence reflects poorly on the ministry’s oversight and accountability. These issues were brought to light during recent parliamentary committee proceedings.
