English teachers under the Uganda Comprehension and Composition experts society have commended the National Development Curriculum Centre for initiating a new policy which advocates teaching children in the lower primary in their local languages.
According to them, it becomes a challenge for a learner who uses a foreign language from childhood to comprehend what’s taught. Daniel Booth Owuya, the president of Uganda National Comprehension and Composition Experts Society, pointed out the need for books written in indigenous languages ​​to schools as well as training more teachers to acquire skills in the local languages.
