Gaming machines impounded in Mbarara city

From the courtroom, we move to a crackdown on illegal gaming that has authorities taking strict action to protect communities.

Officials from the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board On Tuesday night, impounded over 50 illegal gaming machines in Mbarara City as part of a nationwide crackdown. Operations Manager Steven Tabaruka said the “Mashine Haramu” campaign has confiscated more than 6,000 machines across Uganda to protect citizens from unregulated gaming.

Tabaruka urged communities to monitor their children and keep them away from gaming houses, warning that betting carries serious consequences. Some youths expressed frustration over the proliferation of machines, citing financial struggles after repeated losses, with Mulongo Waswa noting that many no longer save money for themselves.
