The government has committed to supporting local science-based companies, recognizing their critical role in advancing the knowledge economy and improving access to health supplies.

State Minister for Privatisation and Investment, Evelyn Anite, announced that through the National Medical Stores (NMS), the government will procure health supplies from local manufacturers to boost their growth and reduce reliance on imports.

Anite made the remarks while touring Mavid Pharmaceutical Industries in Bilongo, Kajjansi, Wakiso District. The factory produces a variety of certified drugs, including cough mixtures and surgical spirits.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Aisha Bukenya, Head of Pharmacy at Mavid Pharmaceuticals, urged the government to lower taxes on raw materials, saying this would help reduce the final cost of medicine for Ugandans.
