Inmates have been asked to embrace the plea bargain system, where accused persons plead guilty to their charges in exchange for lighter sentences. This call was made during the launch of a plea bargain session at Masaka Prison, where over 100 cases are expected to be handled within four days. Currently, Masaka Prison, originally built to accommodate only 300 inmates, now holds 1,499 prisoners, of whom 342 have been convicted, while 1,157 remain on remand.
