Team Uganda’s performance at the 2025 World Athletics Championships will go down as the country’s worst in recent years.
So far, the team of 21 athletes has failed to win or come close to winning a medal, with only one athlete, Joy Cheptoek, remaining to wrap up the campaign in Tokyo.
Earlier today, 800m runner Halima Nakaayi finished sixth in her semifinal heat, shortly after Kenneth Kiprop and Herbert Kibet failed to qualify for the men’s 5,000 meters final.
Two of Uganda’s most decorated athletes, Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo, did not travel with the team, citing fatigue.
Joining me in studio tonight is Abdallah Muhammad, the Publicity Secretary of the Uganda Athletics Federation, to discuss Team Uganda’s performance.
