World Bank to invest $30B in Africa's energy access
The World Bank has said it will invest up to 30 billion dollars in generation and access to affordable energy across Africa. This comes at a time when countries on the continent, including Uganda, are struggling to meet the target of the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which seeks to connect 300 million people to electricity by 2030. In Uganda, up to 60% of the population is connected to electricity, leaving the other 40% in darkness. Sector experts are calling on the private sector to bridge the gap as government and donor financing dwindles. Rachael Nabisuubi reports
