Activists query shrinking space for critical media
Government is being asked to renew its commitment towards freedom of expression if it is to promote information as a public good. This comes on the back of several incidents of harassment and brutality on journalists by security forces with the Human rights commission highlighting an increase in abuses towards journalists during the election period. Ali Mivule reports that during an event commemorating world press freedom day in Kampala, United Nations representatives called for urgent attention to the shrinking media space, also reminding media owners to improve the welfare of their employees.
