Bunyoro Kingdom considers leasing Bugoma forest land
The Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom is considering leasing another part of Bugoma Central Forest in Hoima District to an Indian investor for 50 years. The land the Kingdom is claiming in the area is equivalent to six square miles, part of which comprises community land. This follows an inspection by Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom officials, led by the Lands Officer, Lewis Ruyonga, who accompanied the Indian investor to inspect the land in Zorobi Parish, part of the Bugoma Central Forest Reserve. The matter has unsettled residents, who are concerned about the possibility of being dispossessed of their land in the area.
