Chinese mining company halted in Yumbe over illegal operations
A Chinese company has been halted from mining gold in Yumbe District after the Commissioner of Mining visited the site and discovered that it was operating illegally and degrading the environment. Commissioner Agnes Alaba, accompanied by the Police Protection Unit and Yumbe District Natural Resources department officials, visited the site on Tuesday and stopped the mining operations after the company failed to meet the required standards. Li Kuang Mining Co. Ltd, which was granted a license on April 27, 2024, to prospect and explore gold and base metals in Yumbe District under Exploration Licence Number EL00383, is accused of abusing the license by conducting mining activities instead.
