Communities in Nakasongola decry high costs of new fishing boats
The fishing communities in Nakasongola district have decried the high costs of fishing boats. Fishing on Lake Kyoga was banned in April 2019 allegedly because the fish was depleted due to poor fishing methods. This accordingly justified the ban on fishing to allow the fish to grow and this was lifted 15 months later in July last year. By this time many of the fishing boats had been destroyed or they couldn’t meet the new standards set as a condition for opening up the lakes for fishing.
