Deadly fuel tanker accident in Kabale
Police in Kabale are looking into an incident in which a trailer tanker, laden with fuel, overturned and burst into flames while rolling down Kyanamira Hill on Saturday afternoon. The accident claimed the life of the 20-year-old turn-man, Rodgers Monday, who was burned to ashes. Eyewitnesses narrate that they saw the fuel tanker rolling into a trench after failing to negotiate a corner, before stopping. Immediately afterward, the tanker exploded, and the flames started to extend into neighboring kiosks and houses, but no one was injured at this point. Police spokesperson Elly Maate reports that, just like the disaster in Kigoogwa, the driver, Geoffrey Onyango, survived the crash but with serious injuries. He managed to crawl out of the truck but fell down as he was overwhelmed by the flames. Onyango was later rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.
