Over 5,000 Makerere students suffering due to allowance cuts
Makerere University, Uganda’s oldest and most prestigious educational institution, is grappling with a financial crisis that is pushing its 5,498 government-sponsored students into grueling hardships. Budget cuts worth about 25 billion shillings have not only affected allowances for the students, but also hampered essential areas like teaching, research and infrastructural development. he matter has seen thousands of students deprived of meal allowances among other shortages.
