Prayers For Besigye:Opposition call for unity
Unity momentarily prevailed today as the United Opposition coalition gathered at the NUP headquarters to pray for Dr. Kizza Besigye and all political prisoners, calling for a united front in their political struggle against the NRM government, while also condemning infighting amongst the opposition.
The opposition, however, was quickly overshadowed by scathing criticism of the judiciary, which they accused of cowardice and bias in the face of the continued detention of Dr. Besigye and others, despite a recent Supreme Court ruling. The prayers, meanwhile, unfolded under a heavy security presence, with police and JAT Forces deploying around the NUP headquarters and arresting five individuals, adding to the tense atmosphere.
