Army court has no mandate to try civilians anymore
Starting today, the General Court Martial has no mandate to try civilians as has been the case over the years. This after the Supreme Court upheld a 2021 decision by the constitutional court that rendered unconstitutional the trial of civilians in the military courts. As DANIEL KIBET reports, Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo ordered the cessation of all charges or ongoing criminal trials or pending trials before the General Court Martial, with immediate effect.
