Katikkiro urges gov’t to respect rule of law, basic rights
The Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged the government to respect democracy and the human rights of all Ugandans. Katikkiro Mayiga made his call today at Bulange, Mengo, following the continued detention of Dr. Kizza Besigye, despite his health challenges and constant plea to be released to access specialized treatment. On January 31, the Supreme Court rejected the General Court Martial's mandate to hear criminal cases involving civilians, calling for a transfer of case files from the army court to civil courts. Among the case files transferred to civilian courts yesterday was that of Dr. Kizza Besigye, who appeared at Nakawa Court today before being remanded further.
