Gov’t mulls new laws to monitor the cyberspace
The government is considering new laws to regulate the use of internet and social media in the country, before the suspension in online communication is lifted.According to the state minister for ICT and national guidance, Peter Ogwang, there is still need to ensure responsible use of social media by Ugandans in spite of current legislation on internet usage.This resolution comes at a time when the majority of social media users in Uganda are still using virtual private networks to access the platforms, two weeks after government shut down social media in preparation for the general elections.
