Mao advocates for biometric voter verification in 2026 elections
Justice Minister Norbert Mao hopes that biometric voter verification machines will be used in the 2026 general elections as part of efforts to curb ballot stuffing and other electoral malpractices. While the Justice Ministry supervises the Electoral Commission, the minister expressed concern that the use of biometric technology is not yet a mandatory requirement under the current legal framework. Mao made the remarks while appearing before the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, where the sector was seeking additional funding beyond the 201 billion shillings allocated for the 2025/2026 financial year.
