Uganda signs SGR deal to boost railway
The Government of Uganda and the Turkish contractor, Yapi Merkezi, have signed the contract that signifies the start of the construction of the first phase of the Standard Gauge Railway line from Malaba to Kampala, a distance of over 270km. The signing of the deal for the project expected to be complete in only 48 months, was witnessed by Works and Transport Minister Gen. Katumba Wamala at Nakawa Business Park in Kampala today morning. Gen. Wamala also explained that Kenya is also working on the Naivasha – Kisumu – Malaba stretch to connect the line between Kampala and Mombasa.
