Opposition rejects Parliament Bill amendments, calls for halt
A section of opposition political parties has outrightly rejected the amendments to the Administration of Parliament Bill 2024, which were moved and tabled in Parliament by Mityana South Member of Parliament, Richard Lumu. One of the proposed amendments calls for opposition MPs to vote for the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament. Opposition party leaders argue that the Bill is not only intended to cripple multiparty politics but will also create chaos and divisions among opposition MPs. The politicians, who appeared before the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament currently scrutinizing the Bill, urged the MPs on the committee to halt their scrutiny and block the Bill's second reading.
