New cement project licensed to help drop prices within 12 months
The government has issued a new mining license to Chinese Uganda joint venture company Sunbird Mining Limited to mine limestone and manufacture clinker for the cement industry. The project located in Karamoja is worth 300 million dollars and its hopes on commencing production will help drop cement prices. All the clinker used in local cement production is now imported to the tune of 700 million dollars a year.
